In this project we had to design our own art projects. This was a bit of a process because we needed a project proposal before beginning work. At first I wanted to take pictures of something extreme, like fire, but I realized I couldn't get out late enough for the pictures because it so bright, so late now. I settled on working on my 20% project in a digital way. My 20% project was a project for Humanities where we could research anything we wanted. In the end we had to make a project that helped someone in some way, so I researched baking and made a few baking tutorials. My medium for this was photography and stop motion. This is something I have experimented with in the past, but I have never taken it to the next level to make something big for school. It was a lot of fun to make these videos, but I did make a few mistakes. My first mishap was when I started out with sourdough bread. I was looking into sourdough and how it works, but after two weeks I figured out it was very difficult to film so I scraped the idea and went with regular bread. Maybe someday I will add sourdough to my playlist. If I were to go back and do this all again, I would make the whole thing stop motion instead of just little parts. I would have everything on one plane and move things onto that plane. This would make the whole thing look a lot better, so In the future I will use this tactic.
Teacher Creature Project
For this project we took our teachers faces and put them on some creature or animal. My first idea was to take Mr. Farkas' face and use it on a person giving a speech to a large crowd. It was going to have a Canadian flag in the background because Farkas is from Canada. I decided to change that and use something to incorporate all my teacher. I remembered learning about the Yalta conference where Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt all met and had their picture taken together. I wanted to use this and it was perfectly because I could use three of my four teachers in one picture. It wasn't super hard to cut the faces onto the bodies, the main problem came in the background. I first tried a castle scene but it was too dark, then I tried a park/garden scene that was too bright. This bus stop worked well with the black and white of my teachers. I first added in just the teachers and the bench, but I thought there wasn't enough going on so I put the bus in. I thought it would be fun to put king Arthur and the Dark Knight in the background. Last semester we worked with photoshop tutorials and other small projects, but we weren't able to really use the knowledge we gained for larger projects (because of covid). This semester we did a lot of traditional art and less photoshop. The teacher creature project was a great shift to photoshop that taught me a lot. I had to take everything I remembered from the first semester and use other resources to complete this project. It is really easy to forget the skills required to use photoshop, so this helped me to sharpen my abilities and creativity. Now that the project is done, I feel that I could have done better. I spent so much time on my background and cutting out pictures. If I had spent less time on this, I could have edited my people more to make them match the background. If I were to go back and do this all again, I would stick with one thing and focus on the colors of everything. I would try to get everything to match.
Comic Project
In this project, we created a comic that referred to an issue in todays world. I chose to focus on animal cruelty and mistreatment of workers. This comic is the chicken revolution and I tried to make it talk about how revolutions are shot down by the dominate system. There is a lot of hidden symbolism in this art. The first part of creating this project was to come up with an idea. I have had the Chicken Revolution idea in my head for the past few years and I saw this as a way to bring my dream into reality. We had to create a rough draft. I made my comic by hand, then transferred it online to add some digital touches. I used chickens to represent animals around the world that are mistreated and harmed. I added some other symbolism, too. You can see the hair and hat of the main chicken, it is based off of a powerful revolutionaries features. In the end I feel that I did well, but that I didn't do my best. The drawing is not my best work and I think I could have spent a little more time on the smaller details.
Self Portrait
In this project, we took a picture of ourselves that included parts of us, then we edited the photo. This piece represents me and who I think I am and want to be. I chose to include a dark, cloudy sky because I am happier when it is raining and overcast
Letter Portrait
This project was a lot of fun. We had to look for letters from our name in nature and around town. While we were doing this project, I traveled north and camped which is where I found most of the pictures for my portrait. It took multiple tries and lots of photos, but I believe that this picture represents me and what I think. I think that this picture is unified by its darker values, it is not very bright and it has a sort of Halloween feel. If I were to go back and do it again, I would spend more time editing my picture on photoshop so that it looks the best it can be.
